OPTi Announces Crystal Litigation

MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 1999--

OPTi Inc. (Nasdaq:OPTI) today announced that itself along with Tritech Microelectronics Pte Ltd of Singapore and TriTech Microelectronics International Inc. of San Jose, CA were found to violate three patents held by Crystal Semiconductor, a wholly owned division of Cirrus Logic Inc. The patents relate to the "Codec" module incorporated in various audio controller products.

The trial by jury found that the patents held by Crystal Semiconductor were valid, that both OPTi and Tritech infringed the patents, and that the infringement by Tritech was willfull.

OPTi Inc. is no longer in the audio business, where the patents that belonged to Crystal Semiconductor were infringed, as it sold its audio division to Creative Technology in November 1997.

The Company anticipate that the order of judgement will be entered sometime around mid July of this year. OPTi has been fully indemnified by Tritech in regards to this litigation to date and is hopeful that the ultimate resolution of this matter will not have a material adverse effect on its financial position, results of operations, or cash flow.
