Four Linux Versions Certified For IBM Netfinity Servers: Caldera, SuSE, Pacific HiTech, Red Hat All Ready To Run On Netfinity 3000 and 5000

SOMERS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 1999--

IBM today announced that four leading versions of the Linux(a) operating system have been certified for use with its Netfinity(b) 3000 and 5000 servers.

KeyLabs, an independent certification organization, tested the Caldera, SuSE, Pacific HiTech and Red Hat versions of Linux on the Netfinity systems.

"Certifying all of the major Linux players is yet another step IBM is taking to give customers the added confidence that Netfinity servers will perform flawlessly in their work environment." said Tom Figgatt, Linux Segment Executive, IBM Netfinity Servers.

Other Linux news announced by IBM today:

-- IBM will expand its ServerProven Solutions program to hardware

and software vendors supporting Linux operating systems and

applications. Applixware, an office productivity suite including

word processing, e-mail and other applications, is the first

linux-based product to be ServerProven for IBM Netfinity servers.

The ServerProven designation indicates that the software has been

compatibility tested for specific configurations of IBM Netfinity

servers and options.

-- New Linux device drivers for IBM's advanced ServRAID 3 adapter.

The beta device driver will be available through IBM's Linux

distribution partners and on the IBM web site.

-- A new web-based forum where customers, resellers and developers

can exchange ideas and post questions about deploying Linux on

Netfinity servers.

-- New education programs and Linux Professional Server Expert

certification for business partners, providing the latest

instruction and technical knowledge on using Linux with Netfinity

servers.
