DMX and Lycos Sign Global Music Distribution Agreement; Fastest-Growing Internet Hub to Provide Listeners With Ability to Stream or Download DMX Music

Business Wire, May 26, 1999

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 26, 1999--

DMX, LLC, the authority in digital music programming and a subsidiary of TCI Music, Inc. (NASDAQ:TUNE) which will be renamed Liberty Digital Inc., in connection with a recently announced transaction, and Lycos, Inc. (NASDAQ:LCOS), the fastest-growing Internet portal and the world's largest online community, announced a multi-year, multi-phase global distribution agreement under which the DMX(r) music service will be transmitted on Lycos' network of Web sites.

As part of the alliance, DMX will be prominently featured as a major music programmer for the Lycos Radio Network -- enabling millions of consumers to listen to DMX music from their computers.

"A large part of DMX's future is in distributing its unparalleled music service via the Internet. By developing interactive music services with one of the leaders in the online industry, DMX will further establish itself as the premier provider of digital music," commented Lee Masters, president and CEO of Liberty Digital. "The agreement with Lycos provides new brand and revenue opportunities for DMX and increased value to Liberty Digital's portfolio of Internet companies."

"Lycos was the first portal to release its own radio network programmed specifically for its own users, and the first to add a multimedia component to the music with streaming video. The addition of DMX's channels to the mix of music offered on the Lycos Radio Network will further reinforce our position as a powerful provider of online music," said Bob Davis, Lycos CEO. "DMX brings a wealth of content that has been proven to be a big user draw in offline media, and we're excited to add them to our radio mix."

The recently launched Lycos Radio Network allows visitors to enjoy several channels of streaming audio and video entertainment. To further enhance Lycos Radio, DMX brings Lycos more than seven years' experience derived from programming and distributing more than 100 channels of CD-quality music to more than 2.6 million homes and 62,000 businesses worldwide. Lycos Radio listeners will enjoy 30 or more streaming feeds of cutting-edge digital music selected to meet their personal profile. Unlike many other Web music channels, which often simply rotate a limited playlist, the DMX channels will stream dynamic programming, with continuously fresh playlists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As with all DMX music services, not only will visitors be treated to state-of-the-art audio, but information for each song, such as artist name, song title and album name will be displayed on-screen as it is playing.

With Lycos drawing nearly half of all Web users, the Lycos Radio affiliation affords DMX new branding opportunities, with eye-catching banner ads placed within the Lycos sites. Concurrently, Lycos will promote the Lycos Radio Network and DMX's music services across their network of Web sites including tripod.com, angelfire.com, mailcity.com, and whowhere.com. In addition, DMX will promote the Lycos Radio service throughout its Web site (dmxmusic.com).

With this agreement, DMX continues its reach into online distribution. DMX also recently announced the launch of DMX Axis(tm), an Internet-delivered music service that delivers highly customized music programming to the worldwide commercial marketplace. Launching in the summer, DMX Axis will allow customers to select, update and download new songs and schedules through the Internet to keep their music mixes fresh and up-to-date.
