Commencement Crosses the Border; National University and Banco Nacional de Mexico Join Efforts

At National University's Commencement exercises, on May 9, 1999, 12 international students from Banco Nacional de Mexico (Banamex) will graduate with a Global Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Among the twelve, is Carlos de la Concha, division director for Banamex in Tijuana. Banamex has been in business for over 100 years and remains the largest banking institution in all of Latin America. While still a bank teller, Sr. de la Concha earned his undergraduate degree with NU before his promotion. Describing what he enjoyed most about National's MBA degree program was the lectures via CD-ROM and supplemented by a textbook. Realizing that NU's Global MBA transcended all boundaries, he explored the possibility of bank employees remaining at Banamex with Ramon Corona, international director of marketing at National.

The program was introduced first in 1997. The twelve students represent the first generation of Global MBA graduates. Banamex characterizes the courses as "rigorous and rich with multicultural assignments" designed to expand a student's global business skills and comprehension of the profound impact of technology on the business world. National's philosophy of access, relevance, speed, cost and community applies not only to those who attend the 25 learning centers in California, but also to the students in Mexico as well.

In addition, National has established formal educational agreements with institutions in Portugal, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, and Korea. National University believes its Global MBA program is the only program of its kind that combines the use of digital distance education technologies, including CD-ROM, the Internet, and Intranet communication software.

National is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), and the National League for Nursing (NLN). In the April 1999 issue of "The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education," National was rated no. 26 of 100 universities for awarding Master degrees to Hispanics. With an open admissions policy, applications to National University are accepted year-round, on a monthly basis.
