Practical Sales Tools' UnwiredContact Delivers Interactive Contact Management to Smart Phones Using Phone.com's Wireless UP.Browser

Solution Keeps Mobile Professionals in Touch
With Corporate Databases
Practical Sales Tools Inc., a pioneer in wireless database solutions for mobile professionals, today announces the integration of its UnwiredContact(TM) product with Phone.com's UP.Browser(TM) microbrowser for smart phones.
This solution enables mobile sales representatives and field technicians to use smart phones to conveniently access and modify information in their corporate contact-management systems in real time, without requiring data synchronization.
UnwiredContact, introduced in February as the first fully interactive, wireless data interface between popular contact-management programs and portable devices, is server-based software that enables handheld devices to serve as true thin clients that can directly access and modify information in Symantec's ACT!(R) and SalesLogix(R) Sales Information System(TM) databases stored on corporate Web servers. On the thin-client side, mobile professionals can now use smart phones equipped with UP.Browser microbrowsers, which maximize Web capabilities to overcome memory and information-processing constraints that limit the use of full software applications on smart phones.
"UnwiredContact makes the most popular electronic sales information systems accessible and frankly, much more valuable to the mostly-disconnected road warrior," said Cindy Dahm, Director of Alliances for Phone.com. "Now all the account records are at the salespersons fingertips without waiting for a PC to boot-up."
"Integrating UP.Browser with UnwiredContact extends the convenience and flexibility of the solutions we offer to mobile professionals," says Ed Dempsey, Practical Sales Tools' CEO. "Our strategic relationship with Phone.com will further both our companies' development of innovative, thin-client solutions that put important information at people's fingertips." -0-
Convenient Functionality
UnwiredContact is an easy-to-implement solution that features:
-- True Portability: Handheld devices, such as smart phones, are
compact and convenient enough for mobile professionals to use
anytime and anywhere. UnwiredContact brings the information
advantage to the palm of the user's hand.
-- No Database Synchronization - The UnwiredContact
database/Web-browser interface eliminates the need for
synchronizing database updates, saving time for both mobile
professionals and information systems departments.
-- Up-to-Date Information - Because there are no data
synchronizations, the master copy of the database reflects all
changes made by all users in real time. When users initiate
UnwiredContact access, the information is current per the time
the connection was made, which enables users to make
better-informed decisions.
-- Real-Time Lead Distribution - Each time mobile users access the
contact-management system via UnwiredContact, they can see new
action items sent to them by their colleagues in sales or
customer-service call centers. Likewise, updates made in the
field can be immediately viewed by associates in the office and
on the road. This ability to respond quickly provides a key
competitive advantage that helps keep customers loyal.
System Requirements
A Windows NT Web server with IIS 3/4 or Netscape Server, and a persistent connection to the Internet or VPN (virtual private network) is required. Because it is a true thin-client solution, UnwiredContact does not require any software installations on the handheld devices. The software ports to several handhelds, such as smart phones (Mitsubishi Mobile and Samsung Duette equipped with the UP.Browser), pagers (RIM Interactive Pager), palmtops (3Com PalmPilot Pro/3 with Novatel Wireless' Minstrel modem), and Windows CE handheld PCs.
UnwiredContact currently interfaces with both ACT! and SalesLogix. Future releases of the product will interface with additional sales-automation and field-service automation and transportation-dispatch systems.
Pricing and Availability
UnwiredContact is currently available directly from Practical Sales Tools or through other systems integrators of ACT! and SalesLogix. UnwiredContact costs $4,995 for a server license and $199 per user license. Practical Sales Tools and its systems integrator partners fully support UnwiredContact systems.
