PeopleSoft Delivers e7.5 — Foundation of the PeopleSoft Business Network; First Phase of PSBN Readies eBusiness Backbone
Business Wire, May 4, 1999
PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1999--
Extending its position as the leading provider of business network solutions, PeopleSoft today announced delivery of PeopleSoft e7.5, an enterprise-class eBusiness backbone that will provide the foundation for the PeopleSoft Business Network (PSBN).
PeopleSoft e7.5 brings new Internet functionality to PeopleSoft solutions, adding HTML access and a web-deployable Microsoft Windows client for power users. The new functionality will be available to customers this quarter.
"Fundamentally, the Internet is a platform for doing business, whether it's a conduit for commerce, or a network that gives people the information they need and the ability to act on it and be successful," said Rick Bergquist, PeopleSoft chief technology officer. "The PSBN eBusiness backbone gives our customers the ability to do business on the Internet: buying, selling and supporting customers through a business network that quickly and easily delivers relevant, role-based information and commerce solutions to people across organizations. PeopleSoft e7.5 is a significant step in the delivery of PSBN, providing a web-based foundation for the delivery and management of business information."
The PeopleSoft Business Network
PeopleSoft e7.5 is part of the company's ongoing strategy to deliver PSBN, a comprehensive network for e-business including an Internet-enabled eBusiness backbone, Enterprise Performance Management and eBusiness Communities, all delivered through an easy-to-use, roles-based web portal. PSBN is designed to give people both the information they need and the ability to act on it, dramatically increasing the productivity, effectiveness and satisfaction of every individual within an organization. PeopleSoft introduced PSBN in November 1998, and was the first enterprise software player to demonstrate a portal-based enterprise software solution.
The PeopleSoft eBusiness Backbone
PeopleSoft e7.5 offers a comprehensive, web-based eBusiness backbone. Building on PeopleSoft's proven suite of enterprise applications, PeopleSoft e7.5 delivers multiple options for web-deployment of the entire PeopleSoft enterprise application suite, including PeopleSoft's previously announced, Java-based web client, new HTML access for low-bandwidth connections and a new web-deployable Microsoft Windows client that delivers a powerful, low-maintenance desktop client.
PeopleSoft eBusiness Communities
PeopleSoft is delivering the first PSBN Community with e7.5. The PeopleSoft Campus Connection consists of role-based functionality for students, alumni, faculty and administrators. PeopleSoft chose Higher Education for the first Community deployment because the Internet originated at institutions of higher learning, whose users are the most demanding in the world. Campus Community is already in beta tests at leading universities including Gallaudet and the University of Wisconsin.
Scheduled for delivery later this year, additional PeopleSoft eBusiness communities are designed to link people, content and commerce on the Internet. Information and transactions from inside and outside organizations will come together in Communities supporting key business areas including online procurement, benefits, travel and expense and many others.
Enterprise Performance Management
PeopleSoft is the first major enterprise software firm to deliver a comprehensive suite of Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) solutions. Developed in cooperation with KPMG, top business theorists Dr. Robin Cooper and Dr. Robert Kaplan, and Andersen Consulting, PeopleSoft's suite of business analysis software has already been licensed by more than 100 customers worldwide. Additional EPM applications are scheduled for delivery in the second half of this year.
The PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal
Later this year, PeopleSoft will introduce the PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal, an easy-to-use, HTML-based enterprise portal for electronic business. The Enterprise Portal will bring together content, analysis and transactions from sources inside and outside organizations, tapping the PeopleSoft eBusiness backbone, PeopleSoft eBusiness Communities and PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management to provide people in organizations with the information they need and the ability to act on it for competitive advantage.
