Business Wire, Nov 11, 1999
MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1999--
IVAX Corporation (AMEX:IVX) today announced that Stephen G. Marcus, M.D., has joined the company's research subsidiary as vice president, oncology and biotechnology.
For the past thirteen years, Dr. Marcus has held senior clinical research positions in both oncology and biotechnology with Novartis AG and Schering-Plough Corporation. He most recently served as senior vice president, clinical and regulatory affairs and chief medical officer with Neurocrine Biosciences in San Diego, California. Over the years, Dr. Marcus has had key responsibilities for the development of new drugs to treat multiple sclerosis, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and prostate cancer, among others.
"Dr. Marcus brings considerable depth and talent to our growing proprietary new drug research and development program," commented Neil Flanzraich, president and vice chairman of IVAX Corporation. "His substantial expertise in clinical oncology research is particularly valuable as we move into Phase II clinical trials for Paxoral(R), our patented proprietary system for the oral administration of paclitaxel. Dr. Marcus also has played a critical role in the successful development of therapeutic biotechnology products, which positions him well to lead IVAX into the burgeoning field of generic biotech products."
IVAX Corporation continues to strengthen its proprietary research and development program in the area of respiratory products as well. In June, Dr. Edmundo Stahl joined the company as senior director of clinical research for pulmonary drugs after having held senior positions in respiratory clinical research at Glaxo Wellcome PLC, Ciba-Geigy Ltd., and Merck & Co., Inc.
IVAX Corporation, headquartered in Miami, Florida, is a holding company with subsidiaries engaged in the research, development, manufacture, and marketing of branded and generic pharmaceuticals and veterinary and diagnostic products in the U.S. and international markets.
