DIAB-SDS Provides Software Development Tools for Motorola's New DSP56690 Baseband Processor

Business Wire, Nov 11, 1999

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1999--

New Development Tools Accelerate Software Development

in the Competitive Cellular Telephone Market

DIAB-SDS, the leader in embedded 32-bit software development tools and a subsidiary of Integrated Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:INTS) today introduced a complete software development environment for Motorola's new DSP56690 baseband processor. The DSP56690 integrates a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) core and an M-CORE(TM) RISC microcontroller into a single processor that can handle all of the world's standards for cellular communications. DIAB-SDS software development tool support provides an integrated development solution that addresses the fast time-to-market needs of development teams working with the DSP56690. These teams must develop both M-CORE applications and DSP applications. They also face the challenging task of integrating these applications into a final system under incredible time-to-market pressures.

"Quality development tools are a critical element in Motorola's DigitalDNA(TM) portfolio for wireless systems," according to Mario Rivas, corporate vice president and general manager of the Wireless Subscriber Systems Group. "Motorola has worked closely with DIAB-SDS to ensure that DSP56690 developers have access to a solid development tool solution."

DIAB-SDS software development tools for the DSP56690/DSP56670 were developed jointly by DIAB-SDS and Motorola. These components have been combined into an integrated solution that is both sold and supported by DIAB-SDS.

"Providing a complete and integrated solution with industry leading support is crucial for DSP56690 developers in managing their time-to-market pressures," according to David Stepner, president of DIAB-SDS. "As Motorola's long time partner, it is vital to be the first to support this major new product targeting the wireless embedded market."

The availability of a comprehensive set of best-in-class development tools and CPU simulators at the same time as DSP56690/56670 samples will allow development teams to begin firmware development immediately, allowing for shorter development cycles in the extremely competitive cellular telephone market.

Availability

As a result of the close cooperation with Motorola, DIAB-SDS will be in a position to deliver commercial development tools for the DSP56690/DSP56670 when samples and development boards become available in late fourth quarter, 1999. The DSP56670 is the RAM development device for systems targeting the DSP56690.

The initial release of DIAB-SDS development tools for the DSP56690/56670 also supports development teams working with the older DSP56621/51/52/54 processors that combine an M-CORE processor and a DSP in a similar way. Supported host operating systems for the initial release include Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, and Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6 and 2.7.
