Business Wire, Nov 11, 1999
AKRON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1999--
Aironet Wireless Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:AIRO) -- a leading provider of high performance wireless local area network (WLAN) wireless network solutions -- has announced that Banc of America Securities has chosen Aironet wireless high-speed networking technology for a number of its business units.
Banc of America Securities LLC (BAS), a subsidiary of Bank of America Corporation, is a full-service investment bank and brokerage firm. With principal offices in San Francisco, New York City and Charlotte, BAS employs more than 4,000 associates in offices around the country, and with affiliates, offers capabilities worldwide.
In investment banking, communicating quickly with clients and fellow traders and remotely monitoring changes in the market is critical to the company's success. Today, thanks to the Aironet 4800 Turbo DS(TM) wireless local area network (WLAN) products, employees at Banc of America Securities can securely monitor the market wirelessly, from anywhere in the building.
The Aironet 4800 Turbo DS(TM) high-speed 11 Mbps wireless LAN products work and perform like a wired local area network. The 802.11b standards-based products achieve high data rates, deliver maximum range and are easy to use and install -- providing fast, reliable, and secure connections with minimal effort.
In one location alone, Banc of America Securities' Information Technology group supports more than 5,000 devices. "Recently we needed to re-deploy a number of employees into a new temporary area. To hardwire the network would have taken days. With Aironet's wireless networking solution, we were able to set up over night and save over 40 percent in costs. Aironet brings our users the empowering technology needed to best serve our clients," says Steve Linder, VP Desktop Engineering at Banc of America Securities.
The Banc of America Securities IT group recently outfitted printers in one of their offices with Aironet wireless Universal Client adapters. By using the adapter, a printer placed on a mobile cart can be wirelessly connected to the network whenever and wherever it is moved. Location of printers is no longer dependent upon physical network connections.
"Aironet wireless networking solutions offer companies a new found freedom. The ability to move from floor to floor, office to office, conference room to trading floor allows enterprises a mobility that enhances the way they work," says Ron Willis, vice president of sales and marketing for Aironet. "We provide any business or enterprise the freedom to work the way we live...on the move."
Aironet was the first company to market with a high-speed 11 Mbps, IEEE 802.11b standard-compliant wireless network solution that has found widespread success with small, medium and large businesses as well as global enterprises since its introduction last fall. The 4800 Turbo DS(TM) Series family is based on the world leading AP4800 Access Point and a full-range of client solutions -- PC Cards, PCI, and ISA. The 4800 Series products have received an Editor's Choice Award and Well-Connected Award from Network Computing magazine, as well as the Product of the Year Award from Network Magazine.
