The Internet Analyst News - Computer Hardware: Things Are Looking Up

Business Wire, Nov 12, 1999

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1999--

Computer hardware e-tailers have struggled all year, held down by low margins on sales. But the Internet industry is showing signs of improvement, and the upcoming IPO of the largest player, Buy.com (BUYC - proposed), may boost the entire sector.

"This market has turned a corner," said C.E. Unterberg Towbin's Dan Ries. He added that the sector can thank both Buy.com and Onsale (Nasdaq-ONSL), the number two online computer retailer, for the reversal of fortune. Buy.com recently added a reasonable margin to its prices, and following last week's merger with Egghead.com (Nasdaq-EGGS), Onsale will no longer pursue its "at cost" sales initiative. This upward trend prompted him last week to reiterate his BUY rating on Cyberian Outpost (Nasdaq-COOL).

Be Free (Nasdaq-BFRE), Cavion Technologies (Nasdaq-CAVN), and Akamai Technologies (Nasdaq-AKAM) are also among this week's Analyst's IPO Update.
