Jive Recording artist, Britney Spears was the undoubted winner at the 1999 MTV Europe Music Awards, held Thursday, November 11 at The Point in Dublin, Ireland. The young pop star not only won all four of her awards but also beat the all time record for winning more awards than any artist has ever won. She took the awards for Best Female; beating out Lauryn Hill and Madonna, Best Pop; topping the Backstreet Boys and Ricky Martin, Best Breakthrough Artist; beating out Jennifer Lopez and Eminem and Best Pop Song for 'Baby One More Time'; overtaking Madonna, TLC and the Backstreet Boys.
Britney Spears' debut 8X platinum album ...Baby One More Time is currently No. 7 with a bullet and the sales increased 13% this week with 120,516 to 135,553. The album has been in the top 10 on the Billboard Album 200 chart since it was released 43 weeks ago. Britney Spears is the youngest artist in Soundscan history to have a certified RIAA 8X platinum album.
The fourth single from ...Baby One More Time will be "From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart" and will be shipped to radio on December 15.
Britney Spears' upcoming performances include the NBC Christmas In Rockefeller Center on December 1, the 1999 Billboard Music Awards on December 8 live from Las Vegas and Nickelodeon's Big Holiday Help-A-Thon 99 airing December 11. Time Out With Britney Spears, her debut home video is set for a worldwide release on November 23 on video and the DVD will be in stores on December 14.
Britney is currently in the studio recording her sophomore album scheduled for a second quarter release in 2000.
