Philips Designs Computer Monitors With Customers' Needs Top of Mind
Business Wire, Nov 16, 1999
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1999--
New CRT and LCD Line of Monitors Enhances Users' Experience
with Space Saving Design and Improved Features
From reading spreadsheets and designing graphics to playing computer games and surfing the Internet, Philips new line of CRT and LCD monitors features designs with the user in mind. This new line boasts revolutionary space-saving design, multimedia port and USB Hub options, and some models will offer Auto Calibrate(TM), a feature designed to extend the monitor's life by one-third. The full line is on display at Philips' booth #L4832 at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 15-19.
"When Philips decided to redesign this line of computer monitors, we first looked to our customers and to growing trends in the marketplace," said Mike Gay, Director, Marketing, Philips PC Peripherals. "We wanted to create a line of monitors that truly met our customers' needs for a smaller footprint and offer options to enhance their experiences with our products."
Compelling Design
As monitor design grows more and more important to consumers, Philips' new line reflects features that use technology to enhance the monitor's look. For example, these monitors are the shortest product on the market. And, Philips has created thin wall design to reduce material thickness and further reduces the monitor's depth. The monitors also have a reduction total volume of 30 to 50 percent.
Recognizing the functions that users deem most important, Philips created a uniform control panel that eliminated unnecessary functions and highlighted the ones used most frequently. Each monitor has the same OSD for ease of use between models. And, to complement both the office and home, the monitors' product design is simple without unnecessary labels or logos on the front or the back.
To meet the home users' as well as the professional users' differing needs, these monitors are available in Standard (S), Business (B) and Professional (P) lines. The S line offers monitors in 15-, 17-, and 19- inch sizes, the B line adds a 21-inch, and the P line boasts 17-, 19- and 21-inch monitors.
Options to Match Users' Lifestyles
This new line of computer monitors has options users can choose depending on their lifestyles and needs. For example, to extend the monitor's life, the 21" B line and the 19" and 21" inch P line are equipped with Auto Calibrate, which readjusts color temperature, luminance and the black level to keep the monitor's screen fresh. Users can personalize the color feature to get the color temperature they want. And on all models, a USB Hub option (retail $29) can be attached to the monitor's base and moved along the base at any time to fit the user's needs. The monitors also have an optional Multimedia base (retail $39), with front-firing speakers, for those who do not have space for traditional speakers, as well as microphone and headphone connections. This option can easily be added any time after purchasing the monitor.
Fit for any Setting
The CRT line offers professional, business and standard classes to fit the small home office, professional environment, or the home front. And, in every class the monitors have the shortest front-to-back desk space requirements giving users more desktop real estate with the B line featuring XSD (XtraSpace Design(TM)).
"The reduced footprint and flexible options make our monitors ideal for the professional, SOHO or home setting," Gay said. "Each of our Standard, Business and Professional monitors take those settings into consideration."
