Business Wire, Nov 18, 1999

MARGARITA ISLAND, Venezuela--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1999--

The early odds to win the NCAA Basketball Championship are in, and there is only one place in the world where you can find them all season long. http://www.sportsbook.com

College basketball is back and the fight for number one this year is expected to be more difficult than ever before. Only a week into the season and the early favorite, Connecticut Huskies, have already dropped 7 places in the AP poll. After the NBA raided the war chests of many of the top schools, the depleted ranks of college basketball are going to have to look towards their younger, inexperienced college-aged players to lead them down the road to the final four. All this young talent is not necessarily a bad thing - it's just not a sure thing this year and the odds are reflective of this, with Michigan State leading the ranks at a healthy 7-1.

Mateen Cleaves leads last year's final-four team, Michigan State, as the odds-on favorite to win the Championship; but with such powerhouses as North Carolina (20-1), Kansas (18-1), Arizona (15-1) and Kentucky (18-1) on their schedule, the road is not easy. Kentucky and Duke (20-1) have both lost their leaders over the past year and are now flush with young new talent, but it may take them a couple years to return to the top of the polls. The toughest conference of them all just might be the SEC where Auburn (8-1) and Florida (11-1) are going to have to fight it out with some strong contenders. Once they finish beating themselves up within the SEC, they might not have anything left for the big dance. Rounding out the top is Cincinnati at 9-1, who are going to look towards Kenny Satterfield to lead them to a national championship. There are a million different ways this season could finish and no matter who wins, it is sure to be an exciting road to the final four.
