School's High-Speed WAN Now Runs Five Times Faster
WaveRider Communications, Inc. (OTC BB:WAVC) (Frankfurt:WVR.FSE) announced today that La Vega Independent School District, in Waco, Texas, has chosen the WaveRider solution again to increase their wireless Internet and local area network access.
Currently, La Vega is using WaveRider's NCL200, a 2 Mbps system for its WAN and will be upgrading to the 11 Mbps NCL1100 in mid-December. This new installation will allow for greater bandwidth and faster transmissions to accommodate La Vega's increased application needs.
"WaveRider has provided us with a phenomenal solution and incredible service," said Cathey George, La Vega's coordinator of technology. "The first installation was so successful, we knew where to turn when we were ready to upgrade. Also, with a system like WaveRider's, we can continue to grow without a major increase in infrastructure cost."
La Vega's complete wireless system links six buildings using point-to-point wireless technology. With six servers in place, the longest connection is about 1.5 miles from the central hub. Every classroom in La Vega school district provides students and teachers with Internet access via several computers.
The district has approximately 2500 students and 218 teachers in grades K through 12. Teachers currently have individual e-mail accounts and, with the new WaveRider installation, the school will be able to display its students' work on its own web page, provide videoconferencing from the school's multimedia lab and provide uninterrupted transmissions of video to other buildings.
"The challenge many schools are facing is to provide their students with a rich Internet based learning experience, while at the same time controlling escalating costs," said Charles Brown, vice president of marketing, WaveRider Communications. "WaveRider's NCL product family meets this challenge by providing very fast Internet access at a fraction of the cost of alternative access methods."
