SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1999--

IDG's InfoWorld, the IT newsweekly that defines technology for business, today announced that Sandy Reed has been promoted to editorial director of InfoWorld and InfoWorld strategic initiatives from her position as editor-in-chief. Michael Vizard moves up from his position as editor to take over as editor in chief of InfoWorld.

As editorial director of InfoWorld and InfoWorld strategic initiatives, Reed will focus on expanding current editorial products and partnerships, such as Women in Technology International (WITI), CTO Forum and CTO supplements, as well as developing future projects.

"As one of the most influential journalists covering the computer industry, Sandy has helped set the standard for integrity in technology journalism with InfoWorld. Along the way, her efforts contributed to growing the circulation and readership of InfoWorld to record levels," said Stephen Moylan, president and CEO of InfoWorld Media Group. "In her role as editorial director, we look forward to her extending the success and integrity she has brought to InfoWorld to new ventures."

Reed brings more than 20 years of journalism experience to InfoWorld Media Group. Since joining InfoWorld in 1995, she has twice been named one of the most influential journalists covering the computer industry today in the annual survey by Marketing Computers magazine. As editor-in-chief of InfoWorld, she headed a team of more than 100 top journalists, making it the largest editorial staff dedicated to covering technology news in print and on the Web. Prior to serving as editor in chief, Reed was a contributing editor to InfoWorld and managed all editorial aspects of several InfoWorld supplements.

Reed's career in journalism includes various reporting and senior editing positions at newspapers including the San Jose Mercury News, The Miami Herald, the Billings (Mont.) Gazette, and the Oakland (Calif.) Tribune. She first joined InfoWorld in 1984 as executive editor, responsible for news operations. In 1985, she joined Personal Computing Magazine as executive editor. In 1990, she was named editor in chief of the 500,000-circulation publication. She was also founding editor in chief of Macintosh Business Review (no longer published) and founding editorial director of New Media Age magazine (now NewMedia magazine). In 1991, she joined PC/Computing as executive editor.

"Thanks to the efforts of the most talented and dedicated staff in the industry, InfoWorld and InfoWorld.com continue to be the definitive source for current, thorough and objective coverage of technology for professionals," said Reed. "I look forward to the opportunity to extend this equity in other ventures, and feel fortunate that Michael Vizard -- who has contributed so much already -- will be in charge of continuing to build on this tradition as editor in chief. "
