adam.com's Director of Pediatrics Dr. Alan Greene to be Recognized at Intel Corporation Internet Health Day
Business Wire, Oct 12, 1999
NEW YORK and ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1999--
adam.com (Nasdaq:ADAM), the leading source for online medical and health information, announced that adam.com's director of pediatrics, Dr. Alan Greene, will be recognized tonight at an Intel Corporation event.
In order to draw attention to the tremendous amount of innovation and experimentation going on in the area of Internet health, Intel will highlight the efforts of four health professionals during their "Internet Health Day" event on October 12, 1999.
Dr. Greene began making "virtual housecalls" through the Internet in response to frustrations caused by the reduced amount of time he was able to spend with each patient due to managed care. In the fall of 1995, with a grant of some equipment, software and technical support, Dr. Greene and his wife started working on his first Web site, www.drgreene.com, at their kitchen table. Within a few months of opening the site, they were receiving hundreds of thousands of page hits from all over the world.
"The Internet is a powerful tool, bringing information and resources directly to the consumer. Healthcare information distributed through the Internet can be viewed by millions of people - technology allows me to impact more children in one week than I will ever see in a lifetime of clinical practice." said Dr. Greene. "I am delighted to receive this recognition from Intel who is helping to promote the sharing of knowledge and the improvement of healthcare around the world through their Internet Health Initiative."
www.drgreene.com offers hundreds of Question and Answer articles in which Dr. Greene gives thorough, in-depth answers to real questions submitted by parents, and includes up-to-date articles on relevant health topics. DrGreene.com receives approximately 850,000 hits a month and won Yahoo! Internet Life's "Best of the Best" award in the "Resources for New Parents" category in Spring 1999. Parents can now find this information, with the addition of discussion groups and live chat on a variety of topics - from immunization, toilet training and temper tantrums to language development and teen acne - online through adam.com, where Dr. Greene recently became the director of pediatrics and the medical expert for adam.com's Children's Health Channel.
Dr. Greene is a practicing pediatrician in San Mateo, California. He is also chairman of the Department of Pediatrics for Mills-Peninsula Hospitals and on the clinical faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine. He has provided expert commentary for numerous publications including Parenting, Child, Baby Talk, Woman's World, Better Homes and Gardens, and Reader's Digest. In addition, the Wall Street Journal and Consumer Reports have reviewed Dr. Greene. He is also a frequent guest on television and radio shows as a medical expert.
