Business Wire, Oct 12, 1999
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1999--
Expansive Deployment of Cisco VCO/4K and TeleWare Global's Spider(TM) Software Suite Allows AMC to Flexibly and Rapidly Roll Out
Next-generation Services
Cisco Systems, Inc. and software integrator TeleWare Global Corporation (formerly Worldwide Web Systems) announced today that American MetroComm (AMC) has selected the Cisco VCO/4K Programmable Switch controlled by TeleWare Global's Spider(TM) integrated software suite as the foundation for AMC's network deployment of next-generation voice, data and video technology.
Through this network, AMC plans to offer a wide range of telecommunications services including local, long distance, wholesale dial-in ports and private data line services throughout the South East United States. The initial roll-out totals in excess of $60 million, with a second phase scheduled in the next ninety days that will be equal or greater in value.
"By taking advantage of the relationship between Cisco and TeleWare Global, AMC is able to aggressively expand its service area with cutting-edge technology throughout the South East United States," summarized Mike Henry, CEO of AMC. "The combined hardware/software solution, based on Cisco's open telephony model, gives us the flexibility to rapidly deploy the state-of-the-art communications services our customers want today and the emerging technologies they will need in the future, such as unified messaging."
As part of the overall deployment of the VCO/4K switch, AMC has installed Cisco routers, catalyst switches, access servers, and ATM hardware equipment. Cisco has designated AMC a Cisco Powered Network (CPN) provider to highlight the company's end-to-end deployment of Cisco equipment, as well as its commitment to using intelligent broadband IP networking to deliver enhanced connectivity and network-based applications to its customers.
The software driving AMC's New World network solution is being provided by TeleWare Global, Cisco's fastest growing Cisco Voice Application Partner (CVAP). TeleWare Global's Spider integrated software suite, improves AMC's customer satisfaction through immediate provisioning of enhanced services to their customers, such as quality of service and least cost routing.
The real-time switch control and billing software will reduce AMC's operating and billing costs. Specifically, the software will allow AMC's engineers to control their entire network with a lap top PC and common browser over a secured Internet connection. In addition, the real-time billing software component enables AMC to vary the duration and timing of customers' bills, as well as generate an invoice as soon as a customer completes a phone call.
"As a Cisco Voice Application Partner, we're dedicated to developing innovative voice applications on an open network architecture to give our customers the flexibility to compete in the rapidly changing telecommunications market," said Frank Valdez, president and CEO of TeleWare Global. "We're excited to partner with Cisco to help AMC realize the endless opportunities for achieving least-cost routing, quality of service and control capabilities."
The VCO/4K open, programmable switch enables some of the most innovative voice services on the market today, such as voice/fax messaging, integrated messaging, voice-activated dialing, calling card, personal assistant and web-initiated conferencing. In addition, it can serve as a core infrastructure switch for wireline and wireless networks, as well as a mixed environment gateway for circuit- and packet-switched networks.
"AMC's aggressive deployment of this Cisco/TeleWare Global New World solution demonstrates that they are a leader in the telecommunications industry, committed to quickly and efficiently meeting the needs of their customers," said Kevin DeNuccio, vice president of Service Provider Operations at Cisco Systems. "This deployment also exemplifies how Cisco's ecosystem strategy is effectively helping service providers deliver profitable New World services with rapid time to market."
