NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--
MAINVIEW for E-business Management Solution Provides Application Service Assurance(TM) for Organizations Doing Business on the Internet
BMC Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:BMCS) today announced MAINVIEW(R) for E-business Management, one of three new solutions and services that are part of the world's first complete e-business management initiative. This management solution, which includes MAINVIEW for WebSphere, MAINVIEW for Network Management and MAINVIEW for Systems Management, is the cornerstone that allows companies to achieve greater success as they perform an increasing number of business operations over the Internet.
MAINVIEW offers a proactive approach to monitoring, managing and automating mainframe systems. These capabilities provide tremendous advantages in management of the enterprise server environment and are indispensable for companies doing business on the Internet -- many of which continue to store vast amounts of data in the mainframe environment.
"E-commerce is becoming a key driver in how we provide information to our customers, so that they can make better, more informed business choices about how they use the energy services we provide. This allows them to be profitable, and if we help them become profitable, we will maintain their loyalty as a customer to us," said Kevin Lane, managing director of the data delivery and operations projects at Duke Energy. "But, to deliver that, we need very fast, efficient, highly optimized and available back office systems. We employ a wide range of BMC Software products to achieve this."
The mainframe has enjoyed much success recently as prices have declined and a reputation for stability has intensified. This, coupled with the rise of clustering technology in recent years that allows for data sharing across multiple enterprise servers, has contributed to the market's perception of the mainframe as a Web application option. Estimates are 70% of the world's data continues to reside on the mainframe. As the move toward e-business intensifies, so likely will the role of the OS/390 system. And products to monitor and manage that system such as MAINVIEW for E-business Management will concurrently increase in value.
MAINVIEW for E-business Management Solution
Playing an essential role in the BMC Software e-vailability(TM) initiative is the MAINVIEW for E-business Management solution. This new solution combines the benefits of non-invasive e-business application performance monitoring and optimization with the ability to dynamically modify application resources. The central components of the MAINVIEW for E-business Management solution include the following:
-- MAINVIEW for WebSphere provides Web monitoring and management of
applications integrated with IBM(R)'s WebSphere Application
Server. It also offers site usage analysis, monitoring and
management utilities for DB2(R), transaction process monitoring,
and middleware monitoring and management. Using native protocols
to actively exercise servers and ensure responsiveness and
availability, servers are monitored for access and error
conditions to detect integrity, security and failure situations.
Autonomy and automation provide the fast action required in
e-business applications, where problems must be detected and
resolved immediately.
-- MAINVIEW for Network Management solutions provide early
notification to avoid possible disasters and optimize the
performance of data streams. Response time monitoring with
MAINVIEW for Network Management solutions helps prevent
bottlenecks from occurring, while modeling of the performance and
capacity trends enables quick and accurate decisions on where and
when the next upgrade should be applied.
-- MAINVIEW for Systems Management allows systems to automatically
respond to requests for information with data-level integration,
enabling the combination of objects into composite views.
MAINVIEW solutions directly benefit OS/390, IMS, DB2, CICS and
DBCTL environments. MAINVIEW for Systems Management provides the
organization with the ability to monitor across the vertical
trenches of OS/390 for a centralized view of business-critical
applications and related subsystems.
MAINVIEW for E-business Management offers smart solutions that can prioritize and distribute work that needs to be performed during peak operating times. The new offering from BMC Software is proving invaluable to customers entering into, or firmly entrenched in the e-business landscape.
"The traditional OS/390 customers, including brokerage houses, credit card companies, airlines and utilities such as Duke Energy, experience the greatest impact from downtime," said Calvin Guidry, vice president and general manager of OS/390 Service Management for BMC Software. "In the OS/390 Service Management group at BMC Software, we have designed and developed high-value solutions that focus on automation, availability and embedded expertise, allowing our e-business-oriented partners to be truly successful in their endeavors. MAINVIEW for E-business Management is such a solution."
