Raytheon Company Selects Concentus Technology Corporation to Provide Workflow Engine for Billion Dollar Brazilian Rain Forest Surveillance Project
Business Wire, Oct 19, 1999
COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--
Concentus' "process engine" software to integrate data and workflows
from a system of radars, satellites and geophysical monitors
Concentus Technology Corporation announced today it has signed a formal software license agreement with Raytheon Systems Company to provide its MetaExpress(TM) process engine to provide workflow management for the System for Vigilance of the Amazon (SIVAM) to be built for Brazil over the next three years.
According to Raytheon, the massive project required a powerful workflow engine to coordinate large amounts of data to be gathered by satellites, radars and geophysical monitors at locations in Brazil. SIVAM will be used by the government of Brazil to protect the sensitive environment of the rain forest; increase the accuracy of weather forecasting; assist in the detection, prevention and control of epidemics; help to manage land occupation and usage, and ensure effective law enforcement and border control. The system will deliver an integrated information network that links numerous sensors to regional and national coordination centers.
The Concentus workflow software, MetaExpress, will coordinate and integrate data, work, and processes triggered by the data gathered by the surveillance system. It met Raytheon's requirement of being CORBs, groups and their attributes. In addition to packaging the hundreds of APIs (which are well-suited for the developer who is creating collaborative applications), the MetaExpress engine also incorporates the results of the NIIIP (National Industrial Information Infrastructure Protocols) Consortium, the WfMC, and the OMG (Object Management Group) Interface 2 APIs. MetaExpress is, in fact, the first commercially available CORBA-compliant workflow engine.
