Lead in Your Keys — Is It Dangerous?; Free Plastic Key Covers and Answers to Commonly Asked Questions are at SecureRite.com, ``The Safest Place on Earth''

Business Wire, Oct 20, 1999

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--

Consumers concerned about exposure to lead from keys can now turn to the Internet for free plastic key covers and answers to commonly asked questions.

In response to the California Attorney General's recent warning about lead exposure from common keys, SecureRite.com, "The Safest Place on Earth," is offering to mail free plastic key covers to those who visit www.securerite.com. Visitors will also find answers to commonly asked questions regarding lead exposure from keys.

Concern regarding the handling of keys surfaced after Attorney General Bill Lockyer filed suit against 13 key manufacturers and distributors for allegedly failing to warn consumers that their products expose consumers to the toxic chemical lead -- a violation of California's Proposition 65.

"Our network of locksmiths across the country have received a number of questions from people worried about lead exposure," said Marshall Merrifield, Chief Executive Officer of SecureRite.com. "As a consumer resource, we're offering answers to many of those questions on our Web site, www.securerite.com, and are pleased to offer free plastic key covers to those who are concerned."

The Web site also offers several keyless entry systems that eliminate the need for keys as well as the location of SecureRite.com-affiliated locksmiths who can duplicate brass keys -- those with the highest concentration of lead -- onto aluminum blanks. Aluminum keys, though less durable than brass, contain lower amounts of lead.

The offer for free key covers is valid through Nov. 30, 1999 and good for four covers per person.

SecureRite.com, "The Safest Place on Earth," is the world's largest online retailer of quality home security products and a valuable resource to evaluate and fulfill all of your family's home safety and security needs. Through a growing Internet cooperative of hundreds of locksmiths across the country, SecureRite.com also offers consumers the advantage of personal service and local installation of home security products.
