Business Wire, Oct 27, 1999
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999--
Caminus LLC, a leading supplier of software solutions and strategic consulting services to participants in energy markets throughout North America and Europe, announced today that Caminus and ABB Energy Information Systems have completed their first joint sale of energy trading and risk management software solutions. The sale was made to Ontario Power Generation, Inc. (OPG), North America's fifth largest power producer. As Ontario Power Generation prepares to trade nuclear, hydroelectric and fossil power, it looks to the Caminus/ABB solution for the tools needed to manage risk, transactions, scheduling, and settlement in the deregulating Ontario electricity marketplace.

OPG reviewed four alternative applications, and selected Caminus based on their alliance with ABB, citing the companies' depth of organization, scope of system and market experience as key factors in their choice.
Ontario Power Generation has licensed a number of applications and components from Caminus/ABB in preparation for participation in the new Ontario electricity market scheduled to open in approximately a year.
The Caminus/ABB systems are designed to facilitate web-based communication between OPG and regional systems operators, including New York's ISO. Products will connect with Ontario's Independent Electricity Market Operator (IMO), which will manage the integrated operation of power systems in Ontario.
The Caminus/ABB strategic alliance, formed last summer, was organized to develop a comprehensive software solution to provide vertically integrated energy suppliers with the ability to manage risk along the entire energy value chain.
"As one of North America's leading electrical utilities, OPG depends upon complex solutions and expert support to execute its strategy. We are pleased to be part of their energy strategy," said Caminus CEO Dave Stoner.
