Skanska to Build Research Center for University of Massachusetts Medical School for USD 100m

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 1999--
Skanska's American subsidiary Beacon Skanska Construction Company has been awarded a contract to construct a medical research center for the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. The order is valued at USD 100M.
The approximately 36,000 sq. m. (362,000 sq. ft.) research center will house a wet lab, vivarium space, as well as associated laboratory support areas,conference facilities and meeting rooms, and administrative and office space.
Potential areas of investigation may include cancer, biochemistry, tissue engineering and neurological disorders. The facility will provide room for a total of 100 senior scientists and as many as 1,000 staff members.
Construction will commence later this year, with occupancy scheduled for September 2001.
Boston-based Beacon Skanska is part of Sordoni Skanska which is one of the leading builders of research and development centers in the US. Sordoni Skanska reported annual sales in 1998 of USD 1.1 billion, about SEK 8.9 billion.
