The four divisions that will comprise TABS, previously part of Toshiba America Information Systems (TAIS), include the Electronic Imaging Division, which manufactures and distributes plain-paper copiers and facsimile products throughout the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean; Toner Products Division, which manufactures/distributes toner products throughout North and South America, Europe, Japan, Singapore and Australia; Document Solutions Engineering, a digital controller research and development organization serving the U.S., Central America, South America and the Caribbean, and a wholly owned subsidiary, TOPAC, which operates a network of U.S. copier/fax dealers. TABS is majority-owned by Toshiba America, Inc., with a minority ownership interest held by Toshiba TEC Corporation, which has been majority-owned by Toshiba Corp. since January 1, 1999.
"Toshiba America Business Solutions (TABS) has been established to take full advantage of the growth opportunities available in the digital and color market. The synergy of the company's office products-related business will promote efficiency and enable us to increase competitiveness in product development, manufacturing and sales," said newly named TABS President Dennis Eversole. "This new organization is devoted to providing its dealers, and, ultimately, end-users, with innovative and quality products in today's rapidly changing environment."
With the industry rapidly undergoing a transition from analog to digital technology that is fast promoting the convergence of printers and scanners with previously standalone devices like copiers and facsimiles, the creation of TABS will enable Toshiba to take full advantage of the trend in office product solutions with networking capabilities. The business integration also will contribute to streamlined operations and a better deployment of resources.
In the more than 30 years since it entered the copier business, Toshiba has established a reputation for highly reliable, high-performance products. And now the company hopes to build on this with its digital copier, fax and integrated systems' products.
Headquartered in Irvine, California, with annual sales in excess of half a billion dollars, TABS comprises three divisions which manufacture and market business and information-oriented products in the United States and Latin America: the Electronic Imaging Division, Toner Products Division, Document Solutions Engineering Division, and a wholly owned subsidiary, TOPAC, which operates a network of copier/fax dealers. Products include plain-paper copiers, facsimile products, toner products and network controllers.
TABS is an independent operating company of Toshiba Corp., the sixth largest electronics/electrical equipment company, and the world's 48th largest corporation in terms of sales. Toshiba Corporation is a world leader in high-technology products with over 300 major subsidiaries and affiliates worldwide. Fiscal year revenue in 1998 was $44 billion.
