Three finalists in each of nine categories were selected by a preliminary judging panel of industry executives and analysts. These finalists then demonstrated their solutions at the MS-HUG conference, and the winners were chosen after the judges viewed their solutions on site.
The awards were presented at a ceremony by Edward Kopetsky, MS-HUG chairman of the board of directors and senior vice president and CIO of Centura Health. Winners were selected from approximately 96 entries, 19 of which made it into the final rounds. An independent panel of judges selected winners and finalists based on their use of Microsoft technology, specifically the Microsoft Windows NT and BackOffice family of products. Participants were tested on a range of measurable business benefit scenarios and asked to demonstrate how their customer application offered the best features and functionality.
Accepting the award for Brentwood Medical Products was the company's president, Del Freeman, who said, "Brentwood and Microsoft share the common vision of fully integrating healthcare information systems with the latest advances in medical device technology. We look forward to working with Microsoft and other MS-HUG members to bring about the day when all aspects of patient care are seamlessly integrated into comprehensive electronic medical record systems, with better outcomes and lower costs for everyone involved."
