Attachmate OrderTrack Gives Customers Personalized, Self-Service, Web Access to Order Information
Business Wire, Oct 4, 1999
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 1999--
OrderTrack provides instant access to order status and shipping
information over a secure Web connection in a rapid deployment
service offering
Attachmate Corporation's Business Solutions Group today announced Attachmate(R) OrderTrack, an Extranet application solution for AS/400(R) systems that provides a safe, secure, easy to use order tracking system.
Without compromising the security of corporate data or customer information, this Web application allows customers to use a password-protected Internet site to view their own individual order status and shipping information that is stored on JD Edwards(R) and other ERP systems. This not only provides outstanding customer service, but also has the benefit of reducing service costs. This is all achieved without impacting the operation of existing host applications.
The Technology - OrderTrack is customized to fit the look and feel of each company's corporate web server. It is built as a set of Active Server Pages (ASP) when running on a Microsoft(R) IIS web server, or as Java(TM) Server Pages (JSP) when running on other web servers. These technologies allow programmability on the server, but only require that standard HTML be downloaded to the browser.
OrderTrack runs on the server, and uses server scripting to make ODBC or JDBC calls to a database driver provided by Attachmate. Using TCP/IP, database query results are returned and then formatted by OrderTrack into HTML pages, which are then displayed by the browser.
Security - There are several layers of security built into OrderTrack. To access the system, customers are prompted for a logon ID and password. This information is provided by and maintained by each company's MIS department, and all communications to the site can be protected with SSL (secure socket layer) security. In addition, the standard offering of OrderTrack is a query-only application -- the data results displayed are read-only, and cannot be changed by the customer.
The OrderTrack(SM) application that accesses the AS/400 system resides behind corporate firewalls, so customers using the systems have no direct access to it; OrderTrack manages what and how the customer sees enterprise data.
