Business Wire, Oct 5, 1999

BASEL, Switzerland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1999--

Pre-Tested, Certified End-to-End Warehouse Technologies

Reduce Business Deployment Costs and Risk

Informix(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX) the technology leader in enterprise database-powered solutions, announced the addition of Cognos(R) (Nasdaq:COGN)(TSE:CSN) as the newest member to the Certified Data Warehouse program (CDW). A joint program from Informix and Hewlett-Packard Company, the CDW program is designed to reduce the risk and cost for organizations to implement business intelligence solutions.

Cognos' award-winning OLAP application, PowerPlay(R), now joins the CDW program and is pre-tested and certified to run with Informix's Dynamic Server(TM) database, and the HP 9000 model and HP NetServer systems. Together, the three companies target SAP's Certified Business Information Warehouse(TM) Program (SAP BW), to offer customers additional analytic capabilities on top of SAP BW. PowerPlay is an ideal front-end client for SAP BW, offering industry-leading OLAP analysis and reporting capabilities in a web or non-web environment, along with unmatched deployability. Introducing Cognos to the solution means SAP BW customers can now get an end-to-end solution, from hardware to software and database to analytic applications.

"We are fundamentally focused on helping customers get the most out of their corporate data, and certifying an end-to-end SAP BW solution," said Charlie Chang, senior vice president and group executive, i.Intelligence, Informix. "Now, with Cognos PowerPlay added to the CDW program, customers can gain additional advantage from their data with advanced analytical capabilities and improve their return on investment."

Cognos PowerPlay is integrated and tested with SAP BW running on the HP and Informix CDW platform, providing advanced business reporting and analytics for SAP BW users.

The combined solution is being demonstrated this week at the SAP BW Congress in Basel, Switzerland, the first meeting of its kind for SAP BW users. In addition Cognos, Informix and HP will be demonstrating the solution via Web-based seminars and other marketing initiatives in the coming months.

"Business Intelligence capabilities can mean the difference between success and failure in today's highly competitive global economy," said Patrick O'Leary, Cognos vice president of strategic alliances. "Certification can guarantee success on the deployment side. Informix, HP and Cognos have jointly delivered an important part of a complete business intelligence solution for our customers."

"Informix and HP have jointly invested in the CDW program, with the goal of providing to our customers the best environment for deploying business intelligence solutions quickly and easily," said Jennie Grimes, intelligence solutions manager for HP's Business Critical Computing Business Unit. "We are pleased to bring Cognos' additional functionality to our SAP BW customers so that those needing Web-based extended analytic capabilities can now take advantage of Cognos PowerPlay in a pre-tested, pre-certified environment."

Additionally, Informix and HP are teaming with select system integrators that have expertise in delivering maximum value from a customer's SAP R/3 investment. Implementation services range from creating custom SAP R/3 business intelligence solutions tailored to a customers particular needs, deploying turnkey SAP BW solutions, to extending SAP BW solutions with Cognos PowerPlay. Initial implementation companies include ESI, Sysix, and Ernst &Young.
