Houghton Named LLNL Senior Media Relations Manager

LIVERMORE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 6, 1999--
The Department of Energy's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has appointed Susan M. Houghton as Senior Media Relations Manager.
Before joining the Laboratory, Houghton was a partner in the Bakersfield-based consulting firm, The Houghton-Covey Group, which specialized in public relations and organizational communications for telecommunications, energy and agricultural based corporations.
Prior to that, Houghton served as media spokesperson for Pacific Gas & Electric Corporation at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. While at PG&E, she also supervised Diablo Canyon's community tour program. Prior to her tenure at PG&E, Houghton served as the media spokesperson and coordinator of external communications for Contel Corporation in both Bakersfield, California and Dallas, Texas.
Her experience also extends to the academic arena. She served as the public information officer for California State University at Bakersfield in the mid 1980s and she has been an adjunct lecturer for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Center for Professional Development at Bakersfield College and San Joaquin Valley College.
Houghton has a degree in journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In addition to her corporate communication experience, she has worked for a number of media outlets including KFSN-TV, Fresno; KSBY-TV, San Luis Obispo; the Pasadena Star News; KGMX-Radio, Fresno and The Times in Lafayette, Louisiana.
