Allison Payment Systems Signs with TriSense to Offer E-Billing Solution

Business Wire, Sept 1, 1999

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1999--

Printer of 50 Million Bills Annually Will Add PaySense(tm)

Internet Billing Capability to its Service

TriSense Software Ltd. announced it has signed a contract to provide its PaySense(tm) electronic bill presentment and payment solution to Allison Payment Systems LLC (APS) of Indianapolis. APS will use PaySense to add an Internet billing option to its high-volume bill printing and mailing service.

APS is the largest first-class mailer in Indianapolis, producing more than 50 million printed statements and invoices each year. The company provides bill printing and mailing services for more than 900 companies nationwide, including financial institutions, mortgage servicers, business-to-business billers and other enterprises that generate high-volume recurring bills and notices.

"Allison Payment Systems is an industry leader in the print/mail business, with extensive in-house expertise," said David R. Lamm, president and chief executive officer at TriSense. "Now PaySense will add an important e-commerce capability to its proven billing efficiency, while providing the APS customer base with a one-stop print-and-electronic solution. We are delighted to help APS make this strategic extension of its business with our Internet-based solution."

How PaySense Works at Allison Payment Systems

The PaySense solution will allow APS to be an e-billing outsourcer for its many paper-billing customers and prospects. Billers already provide APS with billing data, from which statements and invoices are formatted, printed and mailed. With PaySense, APS can now route bills via the Internet as well as through the mail. PaySense enables APS to offer a complete round-trip electronic service, from bill delivery through payment settlement and posting.

Joseph P. Thomas, senior vice president of business development at APS said, "This product allows us to be an owner of e-billing technology, and provides our customers a single process solution to both their paper based and electronic bill presentment and payment needs. PaySense makes it easy to offer billers a robust electronic service and provides a flexible platform as technology advances in the expansive e-commerce industry."

Without changing client billing systems, PaySense extracts and formats billing data for Internet delivery, creating an exact replica of each biller's paper statement or invoice. Electronic bills are sent to payers via anonymous point-to-point e-mail, enhancing privacy and ensuring delivery. Web-page delivery, supporting the OFX-based interoperability standard, will also be possible.

Payers can pay with any bank account, in any amount, with immediate or future-dated effectuation. Payers can start or stop automatic payments at any time and can apply a dollar limit to further control automatic payments.

Using PaySense, APS will maintain a multi-biller payment warehouse, tracking future-dated payments for its clients and initiating settlement for payments when authorized by payers. PaySense delivers standard automated clearing house (ACH) transactions to each biller's chosen financial institution for settlement, and automatically uploads accounts receivable transactions to each biller's host billing system. Credit card payment and clearing will also be possible.

Growing PaySense Marketshare

APS' selection of PaySense represents the growing success of PaySense in the electronic bill presentment and payment (EBPP) marketplace. With its base of 50 million paper bills, APS brings significant potential volume to the expanding PaySense network. Three other service companies have already selected PaySense as the platform for building their e-billing outsource businesses, and each of these companies is actively installing multiple billers on their PaySense system.

In addition, natural gas utility Wisconsin Fuel & Light (WF&L), has been processing Internet bills and payments with its in-house PaySense system since October 1998, and has begun to offer this option to all of its 48,000 customers. The PaySense system at WF&L was sold and is serviced by Wausau Financial Systems, a strategic partner of TriSense and a national provider of remittance and item processing technology with more than 800 high-volume customers worldwide.

Several additional billers and outsourcers have signed letters of intent to use PaySense.
