New SoCalGas Logo Highlights Sempra Energy Affiliation

Business Wire, Sept 1, 1999

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1999--

Southern California Gas Co. (The Gas Company) customers will begin noticing this month a change in the utility's logo with the addition of the line "A Sempra Energy Company."

The logo is being updated to acknowledge the fact that The Gas Company is a subsidiary of San Diego-based Sempra Energy, which was formed in June 1998 by the merger of Pacific Enterprises, The Gas Company's former parent company, and Enova Corp., former parent of San Diego Gas & Electric.

"While our logo may be taking on a new look, we remain the same company with the same people providing the same energy and the same safe, reliable gas service that we have been providing Central and Southern California for more than 100 years," said Debbie Reed, president of energy distribution services at The Gas Company. "This logo addition simply demonstrates that The Gas Company has the resources of a much larger company to draw on."

The updated logo reflects the evolving nature of the energy market, which is being restructured in California and across the nation to provide customers with a greater choice of suppliers. "We believe it is important for customers to know we are a part of a large, diverse corporation that is taking a leadership role in the increasingly competitive energy industry," said Reed.

The Gas Company will phase in use of the modified logo on buildings, uniforms, vehicles, bills and other forms over the next year.

The logo change will have no impact on customer service. "Our telephone and account numbers won't change, and customers should continue making bill payments out to `The Gas Company' or `SoCalGas,' just as they do today," said Reed.

Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) is the nation's largest natural gas distribution utility serving 18 million consumers through 4.9 million meters. The company's service territory encompasses 23,000 square miles in most of Central and Southern California. SoCalGas is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE), a Fortune 500 energy services holding company based in San Diego, with 12,000 employees, revenues of $5.5 billion and more than 8.5 million customers in the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico and South America.
