Business Wire, Sept 13, 1999
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 1999--
HP to Distribute Integrated Security E-ppliances from Network Associates through its Covision Program to Worldwide Channel Partners
Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced that it will collaborate with Network Associates (Nasdaq:NETA) to develop Windows NT(R) versions of Network Associates' WebShield e-ppliance family. HP intends to sell the NT WebShield e-ppliances through its Covision channel partners worldwide.
The alliance is part of Network Associates' e-ppliance product-line strategy. E-ppliance is a family of integrated e-commerce appliances optimized for easy remote management over the Internet. The two companies also will continue development efforts around the WebShield e-ppliance family as embedded NT comes to market to provide easier-to-manage and more sophisticated solutions. The new WebShield e-ppliance line delivers Web-enabled, remotely manageable versions of Network Associates' award-winning anti-virus firewall and VPN software in the form of simple plug-and-play hardware appliances. The Network Associates WebShield e-ppliance family of products, which will be officially unveiled at Wednesday's Networld Interop conference keynote session, gives corporate customers and service providers an easy way to ensure integrated network security for companies of all sizes.
"As more companies begin deploying Internet business strategies, those without in-house resources or expertise have a critical need for easy-to-implement and manage security tools," said Greg Mihran, head of Internet business development for HP's Business PC Organization. "With Network Associates' new line of NT-based WebShield e-ppliances, today's companies entering the e-business arena now have easy-to-use solutions that enhance and extend their ability to do business on the Internet."
HP and Network Associates are developing WebShield e-ppliance solutions to provide customers with a family of easy-to-manage security solutions. Designed specifically for Internet-based applications, the e-ppliance offers unequaled scalability and a high level of integration, ensuring total security of systems and data. In addition, the new e-ppliance family leverages Network Associates' breadth of products and expertise to provide comprehensive security capabilities from a single platform.
Through its Covision program resellers, HP will deliver NT versions of the WebShield e-ppliance family. The HP Covision Internet solutions program combines leading Internet applications, HP technology and support, and services from select Internet-ready resellers, systems integrators and ISPs to create integrated Internet solutions. Covision channel partners now will be able to build complete solutions using Network Associates' integrated security products that help protect and manage key enterprise systems and data.
"Network Associates' new e-ppliance will provide companies with an integrated, easy-to-manage security solution designed specifically for the needs of Internet-based business applications," said Tim Lyons, director of business development at Network Associates.
