Legendary Led Zeppelin Artist John Paul Jones to Release First Solo Album Today September 14; First Ever Solo Tour Kicks Off October 12th

Business Wire, Sept 14, 1999

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1999--

Rock n' roll legend, John Paul Jones, former bass and keyboardist of the ultimate rock group Led Zeppelin, is set to release his first solo album, Zooma, on September 14, 1999.

This long-awaited instrumental album not only emphasizes John's myriad of avant-garde influences, it marks his return into solid rock territory. Zooma will be released on the Discipline Global Mobile label and distributed by Rykodisc. John Paul Jones first ever solo tour will begin in October 12, 1999.

As the only remaining Zeppelin member to progress and experiment with new styles and directions, John Paul Jones is now at the advent of an on-going solo career. For the last three decades, the artist has made enormous contributions to music history as a composer, arranger, producer and musician. Effectively conveying his impressive ability and musical vision, Jones composed and produced all nine tracks on his new album, and mixed several as well. He also plays a variety of instruments including four, ten and twelve string basses, bass lap steel, mandola, organ and guitars.

Most recently, John Paul Jones has collaborated with REM (arranging strings on Automatic For The People), Diamanda Galas (producing and performing on her 1994 release The Sporting Life and subsequent world tour) and with Heart (producing and performing on their 1994 live release). Other collaborations have been with the Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Butthole Surfers, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel and Lenny Kravitz.

Discipline Global Mobile, specializing in instrumental and avant-garde rock music, was founded by King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp. John Paul Jones chose DGM because of their unique standard trading policy; no contracts exist between the artist and the record company and artists retain the rights to their work at all times.
