DP&L Supporting Hurricane Floyd Restoration Efforts
Business Wire, Sept 16, 1999
DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1999--
In the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd, thousands of people are without power all along the East Coast, with damage expected as far north as New England. To help with the restoration efforts, forty-five Dayton Power and Light employees are being dispatched to the Washington D.C. area.
"We received a call from Potomac Electric Power asking for assistance," explained John Downing, Operations Manager for DP&L. "It is common for utilities to help one another in times like this so we will give them all the support we can."
The DP&L line crews will assist with the general power restoration efforts, which will include re-setting poles and replacing downed power lines. The two-man crews loaded their trucks with equipment and left today for Washington. From there, they will be directed to the area that most needs the assistance.
"These employees have volunteered for this work," said Downing. "They'll face some pretty difficult working conditions over the next couple of days. These are very skilled and committed DP&L employees."
With calm weather forecasted for the Dayton area, DP&L will have sufficient resources available to continue to deliver reliable service to its own customers.
DPL Inc. is a diversified energy company supplying electric and gas energy services to 500,000 electric customers and 300,000 gas customers in the Midwest through its subsidiary, The Dayton Power and Light Company.
