Attachmate's EXTRA! Bundle for TCP/IP Provides Low-Cost, High-Speed Access to Critical Enterprise Data; Object-based Architecture Provides Small Footprint and High-performance
Business Wire, Sept 16, 1999
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1999--
In its ongoing efforts to provide customers with the best host access for any environment, Attachmate Corporation today announced it has built Attachmate(R) EXTRA!(R) Bundle for TCP/IP 6.6 -- a low-cost, Telnet-only connectivity solution for achieving high-speed access to enterprise data. It reduces the distance between host systems and users by facilitating the prompt dissemination of data, modernizing how workers get information to do their jobs.
Built on a component-model architecture, Attachmate EXTRA! Bundle for TCP/IP 6.6 offers superior product performance -- 6.6 performs file transfers 65% faster than its 6.41 predecessor with an `everything you need and nothing you don't' feature set that requires 30% less system memory and has a 50% smaller footprint than earlier versions.
By making data on mainframe systems easily and quickly available, 6.6 unlocks critical host information to casual users. A casual user is a worker that requires only occasional access to data on enterprise systems to perform their job function. By unlocking enterprise data and making it readily available, they become more productive and less reliant on administrators.
The small-footprint design of Attachmate EXTRA! Bundle for TCP/IP 6.6 and its easy to learn features are combined into one, low-cost client. This new architecture provides robust Telnet emulation to all major enterprise host systems and the reliability and functionality of EXTRA!. It is a multi-host access client that features all the emulation functionality essential for productive host interaction, and is Microsoft(R) (MSFT) Windows(R) 2000-ready.
"By building EXTRA! Bundle for TCP/IP 6.6 on an object-oriented architecture, we have been able to deliver exactly what our customers are asking for," says Jeff Pogue, product marketing manager at Attachmate. "Customers want smaller, faster solutions that allow them to extend host information to casual users, without draining system resources to do it."
What's new with 6.6. New product features expand the reach of enterprise information into more printing and file transfer environments, including LU1 and LU3 printer support for 3270, support for 3270e, IND$FILE and FTP File Transfer support for 3270, and SSL (secure sockets layer) support. With SSL, private documents can be securely transmitted over WANs (wide area networks). In addition, multinational and national character sets are supported.
The following features are provided for all emulation types.

Pricing and Availability
Attachmate EXTRA! Bundle for TCP/IP 6.6 has a US suggested retail price of $195. Bundle for TCP/IP 6.6 is currently available from Attachmate resellers, retailers, and VARs, as well as through the Attachmate sales organization.
