UniComp Launches Its Internet Enabled Universal Payment Software and Transaction Processing Solutions

Business Wire, Sept 17, 1999

MARIETTA, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 1999--

Internet Merchants Now Have a Total E-commerce

Payment Verification and Transaction Processing

Solution From One Vendor -- UniComp

UniComp, Inc. (Nasdaq:UCMP) today announced that its web-enabled suite of Universal Payment Software and Transaction Processing Solutions is commercially available and ready for deployment.

According to CEO Stephen A Hafer, UniComp President and Chief Executive Officer, the e-commerce Universal Payment Software (UPS) suite will deliver a completely integrated solution for all Internet merchants -- all under the UniComp umbrella. According to Forrester Research e-commerce is projected to produce revenues in excess of $350 billion by 2002.

"In support of our new e-commerce UPS product, we have formed an in-house sales and marketing team which will initially market our e-commerce UPS suite of products through our group of 2,500 dealers who currently have over 100,000 point of sale terminals installed in over 35,000 traditional merchant locations," said Hafer. "This will allow merchants to use the Internet as the vehicle for payment verification and transaction processing. Now, utilizing a cost-effective PC, both e-commerce or traditional retailers can easily expand their payment processing capabilities without adding expensive payment terminals, approval services or multiple card processors. And, we provide traditional retailers the ability to market their products both over the Internet as well as traditional methods," continued Hafer.

Last July the company announced a remarketing relationship with Michigan-based Compuware (NasdaqNM:CPWR). Under the terms of the agreement, Compuware will facilitate remarketing relationships for UniComp's e-commerce UPS product through its network of North America Business Partners. According to UniComp Senior Vice President, Robert E. Shaver, UniComp will further expand the marketing of its e-commerce product through additional distribution relationships with independent sales organizations (ISOs) and strategic business partners in the U.S. and Europe.

In addition to e-commerce, Universal Payment Software provides a secure method of processing credit and debit card transactions while supporting traditional check verification, authorization, and guarantee services. Bar code and credit card magnetic readers are also supported. The system can be integrated with Point-of-Sale software or operated as standalone software from an intuitive main menu. The system supports all payment types from electronic benefits transfer to frequent shopper programs and gift certificate issuance and validation. Batch processing at the end of the business day provides quick data on sales. To find out more about UniComp's Universal Payment Software, visit their World Wide Web site http://www.thinkpos.com.
