VERITAS Software Delivers Unprecedented Data Availability for Mixed NFS and CIFS Environments; New VERITAS File Server Edition 5.0 Maximizes Performance for Sun Servers
Business Wire, Sept 20, 1999
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 1999--
VERITAS(R) Software Corporation (Nasdaq:VRTS), the industry's leading enterprise-class application storage management software provider, today announced the availability of version 5.0 of VERITAS File Server Edition(tm), the industry's most highly performing and flexible file server solution.
This unique on-line storage management product now delivers accelerated performance for Sun servers and enables customers to consolidate multiple small file servers onto a single, easily managed server, thus simplifying administration.
"For the past six years, I have relied upon VERITAS Software's storage management solutions," said Tom Gee, IS manager at Synopsys Corporation. "Specifically, VERITAS File Server Edition has allowed my team to increase I/O throughput in the neighborhood of 20 percent, saving us thousands of dollars per month and significantly improving application performance. To further maximize data availability, I have dedicated the next couple months to create a SAN that integrates additional VERITAS Software enterprise storage products."
"IT professionals are being forced to respond to the ever-changing requirements of a corporation's complex, heterogeneous environments," said Michael Colemere, vice president of product management, VERITAS Software. "To meet these demands and maintain optimal system performance, VERITAS File Server Edition offers a robust, integrated solution for implementing advanced storage management services that ensure business without interruption."
The new VERITAS File Server Edition replaces the VERITAS Edition(tm) for NFS(tm), extending its support to mixed NFS and Windows environments. The edition combines VERITAS File System(tm), VERITAS Volume Manager(tm) and file system acceleration/file sharing technology. With the capacity to enhance commodity Sun servers into higher performance and available file servers for mixed NFS/CIFS environments, VERITAS Software offers a unique on-line storage management solution. The VERITAS File Server Edition's Samba component allows users in both operating system environments to transparently share files and printers with one another. Administrators can now improve their I/O performance within their high-demand file serving environments that can include workgroup and enterprise-class servers.
"The decision of VERITAS Software, the leader in Storage Management Software technology, to use Samba is a great endorsement of the work done by the many dedicated people working on Samba," said Jeremy Allison, co-author of Samba.
