MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 1999--
Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), a subsidiary of ICG Communications in Englewood, Colo., proudly announced today that it has been awarded a three-year contract to provide a complete C-band system, including antennas, stabilized platforms and terminal services, onboard Baker Oil Tools' newest vessel, the RC Baker. The RC Baker is currently under construction at Bender Shipyard in Mobile, Ala., and is scheduled for sea duty in mid-September. MTN currently provides communications services to over 30 offshore oilrigs and seismic vessels worldwide. "We are pleased to be able to provide Baker Oil Tools with an affordable method of transporting information in an increasingly competitive global marketplace," said Dave Kagan, president and COO of MTN.

The lease service will be implemented by utilizing two satellite circuits, one primary 128 KBPS circuit with a backup circuit of 64 KBPS. MTN will provide onboard telecommunications services via C-band service, providing voice, fax and data capabilities. "This agreement will give us the ability to provide faster and more cost effective service to our clients," said Charley Scott, senior project engineer, Baker Oil Tools.
The RC Baker will provide completion services to several major oil companies, including Shell Oil, Mobile and Exxon. Another "fracboat," Republic Tide, will be outfitted with a complete communications package in late December or January. "Prior to utilizing MTN's state-of-the-art communications services, data was retrieved from a site and transported to a land location to be processed and disseminated, thus requiring several man hours. Today, data can be uploaded and downloaded instantly," said Tom Vannoy, Gulf Coast Region manager for Sand Control of Baker Oil Tools.
