Bovis Construction Awarded $12 Million Modernization Contract by Vallejo School District; Western Region Offices Will Manage Extensive Upgrading of Hogan Senior High School

Business Wire, Sept 21, 1999

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 21, 1999--

The Western Region of Bovis Construction Corp., one of the world's leading construction service organizations, has been selected to manage a more than $12 million modernization and remodeling program at Hogan Senior High School in Vallejo, Calif.

Under this, its first contract with the Vallejo Unified School District, Bovis' San Francisco and Los Angeles offices will oversee all aspects of a multi-phase renovation and restructuring project at the 30-year-old Solano County school, which currently houses some 1,600 students. Bovis' educational facilities team has already started initial work on the project, and expects to complete work by May 2001.

The Hogan contract is part of a $133 million school bond measure passed by the city of Vallejo in 1997, geared towards upgrading educational buildings throughout the district. The award follows close on the heels of Bovis' recent contract wins for similar work at school districts in Southern California.

"The Vallejo school project is yet another in Bovis' growing list of major construction and renovation projects undertaken for school districts," said James D'Agostino, president of Bovis' Western region. "With each major project, we find the company moving further up on the short list of construction industry candidates to manage these large-scale education facility projects."

Bovis' work at Hogan, one of the three senior high schools in the district, will begin with the upgrading of electrical systems and installation of state-of-the-art HVAC systems. Other major efforts will involve improvements that facilitate accessibility for the handicapped and replacement of roofing, flooring, doors and door hardware.

Safety features also will be upgraded, including improvements to the fire alarm system and asbestos abatement procedures. Final steps involve repainting and seeing to other aesthetic changes to the 1960s-era campus, located north of San Francisco.

"This is just the first of many projects we hope to be involved with for the Vallejo City Unified School District," said Allyson Gipson, Bovis' project manager for educational facilities. "We're pleased to be asked to help provide the city's secondary school students with a safer, more comfortable environment in which to learn."

Bovis has a strong background in school construction, recently completing projects for the Los Angeles Unified School District, Santa Ana School District, and Mt. San Antonio Community College.
