SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 1999--
CacheFlow Solution Enables New Zealand Service Provider
to Price Services More Competitively and Accommodate
Increase in Demand
CacheFlow(R) Inc., the worldwide leader in Internet caching appliances, today announced that CLEAR Communications, one of the leading Internet service providers (ISPs) in New Zealand, has deployed CacheFlow's Internet caching appliances to make more efficient use of bandwidth and deliver its 100,000 users greater performance.
CLEAR has shifted to a more-competitive, flat-rate pricing plan for Internet access and says the implementation of the CacheFlow solution will greatly help it accommodate a surge in customers.
CacheFlow appliances locally store and serve the Internet content most often requested by users, while simultaneously monitoring the source of that content for changes. CacheFlow's sophisticated operating system and custom hardware also improve end-user response time by up to 10-fold, ensure the freshness and accuracy of content and more efficiently utilize existing bandwidth.
With the CacheFlow solution in the network, more than 50 percent of all Internet content requested by CLEAR customers is served locally. Because international bandwidth is very expensive and because 80 percent of all CLEAR user requests are for content from the United States, the CacheFlow Internet caching appliances help CLEAR significantly reduce costs while improving customer performance.
"The CacheFlow solution has enabled us to provide our customers better service, and that's a major concern in the service-provider industry because customer churn is typically high. We've made our existing customers happier, and that has kept our rate of churn very low," said Olof Olsson, System Architect with CLEAR. "Secondly, we've freed bandwidth, allowing us to price services more competitively and handle more users as demand swells."
"CLEAR Communications has been voted New Zealand's most responsive telecommunications company for five straight years. One of the reasons for that distinction is because the company is constantly seeking ways to improve service and lower prices," said Stu Aaron, vice president of marketing and product management at CacheFlow. "We're proud that our Internet caching appliances are enabling CLEAR to accelerate its growth through this strategy."
