Furniture Brands International Donates $100,000 to the North Carolina Hurricane Floyd Relief Fund

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1999--
Mickey Holliman, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Furniture Brands International (NYSE: FBN) announced today a cash donation to the North Carolina Hurricane Floyd Relief Fund in the amount of $100,000. Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. established the Fund to assist families and businesses damaged by the recent flooding arising out of Hurricane Floyd.
Mr. Holliman stated: "We were fortunate that none of our manufacturing facilities in North Carolina were damaged by Hurricane Floyd or by the resultant flooding. However, the lives of many families in North Carolina have been severely disrupted and the people of the State have experienced great loss. As one of the State's largest employers, we feel it important that we step forward in a major way to assist in these recovery efforts. We have received many benefits from the State of North Carolina and its people, and we hope this donation will help to alleviate some of the hardship arising from this storm."
The Governor's Office expressed appreciation for the Furniture Brands International donation. "North Carolinians have been moved by the enthusiastic outpouring from all across the nation to help our citizens who have fallen victim to Hurricane Floyd," said Governor Jim Hunt. "We will be forever grateful for the prompt and generous response we have received to our request for financial assistance, both from businesses and individual donors."
