Expeditors Makes Management Appointments in the Americas

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1999--

Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. (Nasdaq:EXPD) announced the appointment of three executives to key posts in a realignment of the North and Latin American regions.

Gene Alger has been promoted to senior vice president -- North America. Alger will now focus on the business activities in the Western United States and Mexico. Alger has held numerous management positions during his 18 years at Expeditors, most recently as regional vice president of the Southwestern U.S. region.

Phil Coughlin has been named senior vice president -- North America and he will assume responsibility for the development of the company's activities in the Eastern United States and Canada. Coughlin has been with Expeditors for over 14 years and been serving as regional vice president for the Northeastern U.S. region.

Idevaldo Silva was named vice president and managing director of Latin America. Silva's focus will continue to be management and development of the territories of the Caribbean, Central and South America.
