TRISIGNAL Communications to Launch NTT DoCoMo 32K PHS/PIAFS Wireless Solution; Embedded Wireless Solutions Will Extend Internet Access to Handheld Devices
Business Wire, Sept 29, 1999
SAN JOSE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 1999--
TRISIGNAL Communications, a Division of Eicon Technology Corporation (TSE: EIC; ME: EIC), today announced the successful completion of field trials and immediate availability of 32K Personal Handyphone System (PHS)/PIAFS embedded wireless solutions for NTT DoCoMo, leveraging Japan's largest wireless network infrastructure. Trisignal has completed all connectivity testing under the auspices of NTT DoCoMo.
TRISIGNAL's wireless adapters are available for license to makers of handheld communications devices and laptops. The adapters enable manufacturers to embed a wireless modem into laptop computers, handheld, or palm-sized computing devices for anytime, anywhere connections to email, the Internet or corporate Intranets using a wireless connection. The adapters are intended to bring the benefits of wireless remote access to the rapidly growing mobile computing audience in Japan.
"Our wireless solutions will enable computing manufacturers to offer their customers wireless access to the Internet from virtually any mobile device," said Gad Elmoznino, Director of TRISIGNAL Operations. "With over 21 million users of Personal Digital Cellular (PDC) phones alone, and with the emergence of high speed connection such as 64K PHS/PIAFS, and packet data communication systems in Japan, the possibilities of mobile computing are endless."
Until recently, 32K PHS/PIAFS, was the world's fastest wireless data communications network, providing a sound, 32 Kbps high-speed wireless environment for PDAs and notebook PCs to connect to the Internet. Recent commercial introduction of 64K PHS/PIAFS service allows for 64 Kbps high-speed wireless connections for PHS phones and other mobile devices.
Future wireless adapter solutions from TRISIGNAL will support NTT DoCoMo's 64K PIAFS/PHS, PDC, DoCoMo Packet (DoPa), and Doccimo, assuring compatibility with all leading PHS/cellular phone networks in Japan. These products are part of TRISIGNAL's commitment to develop wireless data solutions to complement its existing portfolio of high performance communication products, such as embedded analog and ISDN modems, that it has developed and licensed to top networking companies, major modem manufacturers, silicon vendors and other OEMs.
