eHOLA.com Introduces Live Auction Site eSubasta.com
Business Wire, Sept 8, 1999
DELRAY BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 8, 1999--
eHOLA.com, a subsidiary of Global DataTel, Inc. (OTCBB: GDIS) announced today that it will launch a live auction site, eSubasta.com, which means e-auction in Spanish, on Friday, September 10, 1999. The announcement was made by Mario Habib, President of eHOLA.com, who noted that this site was developed by eHOLA.com.
"With the popularity of e-Bay (NASDAQ: EBAY) in the United States, it is our belief that users in Latin America would welcome an auction site in Spanish (or Portuguese). eSubasta.com will allow Latin Americans in 13 countries to both buy, sell and bid on a variety of items via the Internet in an easy-to-use and understand format," said Habib. He added that appropriate security measures are in place to insure both confidential transactions as well as to avoid many of the questionable items on Internet auction sites that have plagued similar entities in the U.S. recently.
According to industry research the spending on Web commerce in Latin America reached almost $167 million (US) last year, which was 361 percent higher than that of 1997. It is expected that by 2003 spending on Web commerce in Latin America will reach $8 billion. "Although there are fewer than 15 million Latin American Internet users at the present time, it expected that in the coming years this number will grow significantly," said Habib. "From the research we've seen, we expect that by 2001 Internet auctions will account for well over $200 million of this total."
Habib also noted that the eSubasta.com site, which can be found at www.esubasta.com, is one of the first of the company's internally-developed content sites for eHOLA.com. The company is working to provide eHOLA users with a combination of internally-developed properties and recognized brand properties to anchor the various interest areas for the eHOLA.com network.
eHOLA.com (www.ehola.com) is a division of Global DataTel, Inc. and offers integrated Internet access in Spanish or Portuguese to individuals in North, Central and South America, providing consumer and business dial-up and dedicated Internet access to 305 cities throughout Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the United States and Venezuela.
