Business Wire, Sept 9, 1999
BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1999--
Unisys Corporation today announced that its Brazilian subsidiary, Unisys Brasil Ltda., has received a systems integration contract valued at approximately $55 million from Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telegrafos (ECT), the Brazilian Postal Service.
Unisys was selected over Hewlett Packard, IBM, SID, Procomp, Novadata and Itautec.
Through this initiative, ECT will integrate information technology in branch offices into its corporate information network and enhance the levels of service it provides its customers. This systems integration project is the first step toward ECT's implementation of an electronic business environment.
Planned next steps include customer self-service through branches and public sites, introduction of Internet e-mail (hybrid mail services), digital identification and authentication and full-scale electronic business.
Under the contract, Unisys will manage the automation, in 12 to 18 months, of 1,436 post office branches throughout Brazil, as well as 28 operational units, 38 training facilities and a development center. Unisys will provide a full range of systems integration, networking and support services, as well as information technology.
As the prime contractor, Unisys will not only integrate all applications and networking products, but also develop new solutions for ECT. Unisys will also provide services such as maintenance, training, logistics and management for ECT's branch automation system.
Unisys partners in the ECT project include Metron, Filizola, PitneyBowes, Elgin, Zebra/Seal, Gertec/OEM, BK and Olivetti.
