Portfolio Dot Coms
Internet Venture Works (IVW), the leading Internet accelerator, today announced it has hired Bruce Walker, 40, as Chief Technology Officer.
Walker, a veteran of Sun Microsystems, Inc., and Thinking Machines Corp., brings considerable technology experience to bear on IVW's strategy to revolutionize the way companies liberate profound dot com value from their core business strategies. In his role as CTO, Walker will be responsible for the overall architecture and technology investment decisions of IVW and its portfolio of Internet start-up companies. IVW was founded last year by a cadre of successful Internet executives with strong funding from buyout firm J.W. Childs Associates LP and Lycos, the Web portal.
"In every phase of his 20-year career, Bruce has been part of pioneering teams at companies that have clearly become business computing standards in the market today," said Robert Frasca, CEO of IVW. "His experience in database design, combined with his track record of innovation in emerging technologies, will contribute greatly to our ability to unlock value for our companies. He is an excellent fit for IVW."
During more than five years at Sun Microsystems, Walker served as CTO for the Sun/Netscape Alliance (iPlanet) Ecommerce Applications Division, and as Director of E-Commerce Architecture and Technology for Sun's own e-business efforts. Prior to his tenure at Sun, Walker was the Director of the Business Supercomputing Division at Thinking Machines Corp., which pioneered the application of large-scale massively parallel supercomputing and high-end database mining techniques to identify highly profitable marketing opportunities for mainstream companies.
