SAN CARLOS, Calif. and ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2000
ShareMedia, the premier provider of outsourced unified email, fax and voice messaging services, and RealNames, a provider of an Internet infrastructure technology based on Internet Keywords, announced an agreement to integrate RealNames' Internet Keywords into fax machines "powered" by ShareMedia. This partnership will allow users to receive web information directly from a ShareMedia-powered fax machine by using Internet Keywords.
Internet Keywords is an Internet navigation system that allows people to use familiar words or phrases to easily find the information they are looking for on the web. Internet Keywords are integrated into popular search engines, directories and portals such as AltaVista, Google, Go2Net, the GO Network, Looksmart, and MSN. For example, consumers looking to find more information on a Ford Explorer will simply type "Ford Explorer" into a ShareMedia-enabled fax machine and get information from the web page featuring Ford Explorer faxed directly to them. ShareMedia-powered fax machines are currently available in the US and Europe.
"ShareMedia and RealNames will offer users the ability to type Internet Keywords into fax machines to get the information they are looking for," said Tom Chen, president and CEO of ShareMedia. "This partnership will allow users to take advantage of the convergence of telephony and Internet applications and enable them to get information faxed to them directly from the Web."
"Integrating ShareMedia's fax technology with RealNames' navigation capabilities is an exciting innovation for both fax and web users," said Keith Teare, CEO of RealNames. "The integration of Internet Keywords into Internet appliances should help consumers easily get the information they are looking for. This is product 'fax-back' from the web. Our B-to-B customers will particularly benefit from this new product discovery service; distributed via fax machine."
About Internet Keywords
Internet Keywords is an Internet navigation system that transports people directly to brands on the web. Marketing executives, brand managers -- and the media buyers and agencies that serve the brand owners -- can use Internet Keywords to converge print, TV, and radio advertising with a company's Internet presence. Internet Keywords, which can be used in many languages and character sets, are designed to improve a company's return on total advertising spending by unifying its identity online and offline. The RealNames' Internet Keywords system runs on a scaleable, powerful technology platform composed of routers, databases, and management tools that generate integrated reports for measuring a brand's economic value, and allow portals, search engines and communication service providers to create and deliver new Internet products and businesses.
