ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2000
ManTech Systems Solutions Corporation (ManTech), the worldwide market leader in powerful conversion tools for databases, enterprise applications and data announced today that its suite of database conversion tools has been enhanced to convert stored procedures used by Oracle, Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server to the SQL Procedure Language of DB2 Universal Database(TM) Version 7, announced today by IBM. The SQL Procedure Language is based on the ANSI/ISO standard for Persistent Stored Modules (PSM). This is a block-structured language that provides simple procedural extensions to SQL similar to the proprietary Transact-SQL or PL/SQL languages used by Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle respectively.
ManTech supports customers migrating to DB2 on all leading platforms including Unix, NT and OS/390. Among the primary reasons that customers are choosing DB2 are the needs for scalability, e-commerce readiness, consolidation, support and reliability. "ManTech has been engaged in projects with Northwestern Mutual to convert several of its databases to DB2," said John Hillmer, assistant director of information systems, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company of Milwaukee, Wis. "The SQL Conversion Workbench is dramatically reducing the time and manpower required to perform the conversion."
ManTech's SQL Conversion Workbench(R) V4 (SQL-CW) makes it significantly faster and easier for customers to migrate to DB2. ManTech announced previously that it has licensed the SQL-CW to IBM for use in migration services engagements with its customers. In addition, ManTech has licensed its Stored Procedure Conversion Tool (SProCT)(TM) to IBM. The tool will be available as a free download at http://www.ibm.com/software/data/db2/migration, the new IBM migration web site. SProCT (SQL-CW V3) is a subset of the SQL-CW V4.
"IBM's new DB2 Universal Database is yet another example of how IBM is redefining the data management marketplace," said Jim Kelly, vice president, IBM Data Management Solutions. "To meet market demand, we are also working with ManTech to make it faster and easier for customers to migrate to and deploy DB2 as their e-business foundation."
"We understand the business challenges of companies faced with database and application conversions," said George J. Pedersen, chairman of the board, CEO & president of ManTech International Corporation, parent company of ManTech Systems Solutions Corporation. "We are committed to our strong partnership with IBM in our continuing effort to make it easier for customers with applications on other databases to migrate to DB2 as their database of choice."
ManTech released the SQL Conversion Workbench in 1998, and has since deployed it to a number of Fortune 500 companies. A leader in developing tools for converting data and applications, ManTech also offers automated tools to convert VSAM, SUPRA, IDMS, ADABAS and DATACOM to DB2.
