PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 2000

Digimarc Corporation (Nasdaq:DMRC), the world leader in digital watermark technology and applications, today announced that it has appointed Peter Smith to its board of directors.

Smith has over 30 years of experience with broadcasting and digital media organizations -- experience that will be highly valued at Digimarc as the company grows. The company has doubled its workforce since the fourth quarter of 1999.

"This is a revolutionary time," Smith said. "Through it's digital watermark technology, Digimarc bridges the worlds of print and electronic media to provide opportunities limited only by the imagination. I look forward to helping produce some of those ideas and to working closely with the people who are making them a reality."

Most recently, Smith served as president of News Technology for News America. In that capacity he coordinated technology throughout News Corporation, and served as a technology adviser to the board of directors and Rupert Murdoch. Prior to his stint at News America, Smith held various executive positions at media and broadcasting companies in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

"We are fortunate to have someone joining us with Peter's background," said Philip J. Monego, chairman of Digimarc's board of directors. "His experience in broadcasting, technology and the media are invaluable assets for Digimarc's board. We look forward to working with him to expand Digimarc's goals and vision."

Smith graduated with bachelor's degrees in science and engineering from the University of Sydney.
