SAN DIEGO and DOVER, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2000
PacketVideo Corporation (proposed Nasdaq NMS: PVDO) and Casio Inc. today announced that they will work together to deliver wireless multimedia capabilities on the CASSIOPEIA Pocket PCs.
The CASSIOPEIA will support PacketVideo's PVPlayer(TM) MPEG-4 compliant decoding software, which will be available for free download by CASSIOPEIA owners.
PVPlayer, one component of PacketVideo's PVPlatform(TM) end-to-end wireless multimedia solution, decodes rich digital media for viewing on mobile information devices. PVPlayer is designed to support multiple operating systems, including Microsoft's new PocketPC. The streaming rich digital media can be delivered over any wireless data networks at data rates ranging from as low as 14.4 kbps to 768 kbps.
The standards-based decoder is optimized for the mobile environment. PacketVideo's error-resilient technology recognizes and conceals errors inherent in wireless networks, enabling mobile information devices to receive enhanced video image quality. Potential applications include wireless delivery of news and financial information, sports, weather, traffic reports, short entertainment clips and music using full-motion video and audio, not just text.
"PacketVideo's innovative wireless multimedia solution is designed especially for mobile information devices such as the CASSIOPEIA," said Gary Schultz, director of the Mobile Information Products division for Casio. "The combination of PacketVideo's PVPlayer and the CASSIOPEIA enables a level of connectivity not previously available in Palm-PCs, providing our customers with access to a variety of rich media content when and where they want it."
The E-115 is designed for the mobile professional who needs a wide range of capabilities, from business data management to acquiring leisure time information. The new slim designed EM-500 is a mobile multimedia tool that targets a younger market. The new EG-series Pocket PCs with their industrial, rugged look are designed for the heavy-duty corporate environment and feature splash resistant cases. These devices also feature Casio's new breakthrough technology in power management -- flat Lithium Polymer Rechargeable Battery designs capable of extended battery life up to 76 hours.
"We are very pleased to be working with Casio to enable a new type of application for the Casio Cassiopeia," said Karen Brailean, vice president of product marketing for PacketVideo. "The Casio Cassiopeia's powerful multimedia processor and high-quality color display are ideally suited to take advantage of the PacketVideo PVPlayer's capabilities."
