SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2000
ServerWorks Corp., the leading independent supplier of high-performance core logic for Intel(R)-based servers, today announced that Dell Computer Corporation, the No. 2 PC server provider in the world(1), has incorporated ServerSet III HE core logic into its new Dell PowerEdge 6400 and Dell PowerEdge 6450 servers, announced earlier this week. The new Dell PowerEdge servers are available immediately, and support up to four Pentium(R) III Xeon(TM) processors running at 550 MHz.
Dell engineered these new servers for Internet infrastructure and business-critical applications that require scalable performance and enterprise-level availability with the overall headroom and flexibility to support fluctuating workloads. System configurations also include a dual-channel Ultra3 SCSI controller and Dell's first copper-based gigabit Ethernet NIC as an optional add-on. Dell also offers Fibre Channel interfaces that link these new systems to external RAID storage and/or external SCSI storage systems. The ServerWorks' ServerSet III HE's ability to accommodate almost 1 GByte/second of I/O bandwidth over multiple PCI buses makes it an ideal match for the high-speed I/O subsystems Dell offers with these new systems. The ServerSet III HE complements its impressive I/O capacity with a 128-bit wide ECC memory system that accommodates up to 8 GB of industry-standard PC100 memory, and delivers up to 1.6 GB/second of memory bandwidth.
"Dell strives to offer our customers leading edge technology solutions and is excited to work with ServerWorks," said Bob Van Steenberg, vice president and general manager Enterprise Server Products, Dell Enterprise Systems Group. "The raw performance and I/O capacity of the PowerEdge 6400 and PowerEdge 6450 allows us to provide our customers with the building blocks required to effectively build out their Internet infrastructures."
"Dell's engineers have once again delivered a virtuoso performance, as they combined their ingenuity and our server technology to create a pair of outstanding systems," commented Raju Vegesna, ServerWorks' president and CEO. "Products like these new Dell PowerEdge servers will drive continued rapid growth of the Intel-based server market. ServerWorks is proud to play a role in facilitating that growth."
