IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 19, 2000
As another addition to its line of workgroup-class servers, the Computer Systems Group (CSG) of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TAIS) Wednesday announced the Magnia(TM) 3030 workgroup server.
This updated server debuts as Toshiba's first rackable server in its workgroup server class. The 5U rack option provides users with the ultimate flexibility and expandability to meet their server needs. As a top-ten server manufacturer, Toshiba looks to continue to improve and expand its high-quality server lines, relying on more than 20 years of server design experience.
"In this era of network computing, server quality and reliability are critical to the effectiveness of an organization. Toshiba is committed to supporting that need by offering best-in-class products with the latest technology advancements," said Jeffrey Friederichs, vice president of marketing, Toshiba CSG.
"By adding a faster, rackable server to our offering, supported by Intel(R)'s powerful Pentium(R) III processors at up to 800MHz, we are answering the call from our customers to provide leading-edge technology that makes their networks more efficient."
The Magnia 3030 is the perfect choice to support workgroup-computing environments for running file and print applications, e-mail, Internet and intranet. Toshiba's Magnia 3030 will be certified to support Microsoft(R) Windows(R) NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, Novell NetWare(TM) and Red Hat(R) Linux(TM) softwares.
Enhanced Features for Improved Performance
Toshiba's Magnia 3030 server provides high performance and supports dual Intel Pentium III processors for clock speeds of up to 800MHz. This feature, combined with enhanced memory architecture and increased scalability advancements, delivers an ideal solution for the increasing demands of the server environment.
Processing power is only part of a comprehensive, well-balanced server offering. The Magnia 3030 also provides seven I/O expansion slots and support for up to 108GB of internal storage. The increased drive capacity is ideal for supporting today's most intensive business applications.
The Magnia 3030 comes standard with 128MB ECC SDRAM expandable to 2GB. It also offers six standard 3.5-inch hot-swap SCA drive bays with eight maximum storage bays. The Magnia 3030 offers your choice of a standard 300-watt non-redundant power supply or optional 350-watt, redundant hot-pluggable load sharing, lockable power supply.
Proactive Manageability for Maximum Protection
To provide maximum data protection and fault tolerance for proactive and preventative maintenance, Toshiba provides a unique combination of hardware and manageability software. Optimized to perform seamlessly with the Magnia series, Toshiba includes Intel's LANDesk(R) Server Manager, which provides support for the Wired for Management(R) specification and gives network administrators a proactive management solution to help maximize uptime.
For extended remote access capabilities, Emergency Management Port (EMP) software allows network management at all times from remote locations, including power on/off and console redirect. These management features allow IS managers to fully utilize the benefits of Toshiba's powerful hardware monitoring capabilities.
Three-Piece Chassis Designed for Easy Servicing, Difficult
Intrusion
Toshiba designed the Magnia server's tool-less chassis to be easily serviced, yet protected from unwanted intrusion. The unique chassis features a split-front door that allows easy access to the floppy drive and CD-ROM drive, while keeping the hot-swap hard disk drives protected from tampering.
To keep the entire system secure from entry, the split-door can be fastened together and completely locked. This feature is particularly important in small offices and departments where the server may simply be sitting in an open office, not protected in a secure room.
Pricing
Toshiba's Magnia 3030 workgroup server has an estimated street price starting at $2,965 and is available at the end of April 2000.
Availability and Support
All Magnia servers are available through Toshiba's authorized network of resellers and dealers. With a build-to-order model, Toshiba provides configuration flexibility for customers to select memory size, hard drive size and capacity, and a host of other items that best suit their needs.
Toshiba offers comprehensive service and support programs to enhance customers' mission-critical computing experiences. Magnia Series servers come with a three-year parts and labor standard warranty, including next-business-day on-site service. If a hardware problem cannot be resolved over the telephone by an InTouch technician, a field engineer is dispatched to the customer's site to provide on-site service to get the system back up and running quickly.
On-site service is available the next business day if the customer's site is within 60 miles of most major metropolitan areas in the United States. In addition, all server customers receive telephone technical support through Toshiba's InTouchsm Center, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Online support, available at www.toshiba.com, offers immediate solutions to technical questions via "Ask IRIS", numerous downloads and support bulletins, as well as CompuServe's Online Forum.
